Dugi Otok
Dugi Otok (in english Long Island) is the island of Zadar's archipelago situated in Northern Dalmatia region of Croatian Adriatic. The island is 50km long and approximately 5km wide, which is the largest island of the archipelago. Dugi Otok is quite distant from the mainland, which makes it a peaceful destination.
Dugi Otok is connected to mainland by a ferry line Zadar - Brbinj.
Its elevation reaches 300 m; many of its higher portions contain stands of Maritime Pine. The western coast is tall and rugged, and therefore many of the towns are clustered on the eastern side. These include Sali, the largest, and Božava, Dragove, Soline, Brbinj, Luka, Polje, Verona, Savar, Veli Rat, Zaglav, and Žman. A nature park, Telašćica covers southern part of the island and is adjacent to Kornati national park. The village of Veli Rat is also home of the lighthouse at Veli Rat which is indeed a spectacular sight. The principal attractions of the Natural Park of Telascica are the salt lake - a drainage area of 2 km of length full of lukewarm water with a high concentration of salt - and the white rock in the part over the open sea that, after hundred meters, falls steeply down into the deep blue sea.
In the surroundings there are a lot of little islands: near at the south-east coast of Dugi Otok there is the National Park of Kornati - 147 islands with charming shores and luxuriant nature, with only several inhabitants.
