Makarska is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia. The Makarska riviera is situated in Central Dalmatian region of the Adriatic, underneath the mountain Biokovo. The riviera comprises several towns: Makarska, Brela, Baška Voda, Promajna, Tućepi, Podgora, Drašnice, Živogošće, Drvenik, Zaostrog, Brist, Gradac... The main city Makarska has a population population of 13,716 (2001). It is located about 60 km southeast of Split and approximately 140 km northwest of Dubrovnik.
The Makarska riviera has one of the most stunning landscapes in Croatia, a combination of steep mountain Biokovo and a blue sea with white pebble beaches. Arrival to Makarska over the Biokovo mountain, offers a breathtaking view of the riviera - the mountains, the sea and the Dalmatian islands Brač, Hvar, Korčula and the peninsula Pelješac.
